RYAN CARSON
CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER, COX AUTOMOTIVE INTERNATIONAL
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I’m responsible for all aspects of the financial operations for Cox Automotive International. This includes accounting, financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, decision support, tax, statutory reporting, internal controls and Enterprise risk.
I lived in Paraguay, South America for nearly two years!
My key focus for 2021 is to meet or exceed our International budgeted revenue, profit and cash flow while improving margins and ensuring International is on a path to achieve our long-range growth ambition.
The end of COVID and travel restrictions so I can travel to each market to see our operations and meet the local team in person.
Our people. Throughout our markets, it is hard not to be impressed with the dedication, commitment and effort everyone puts in to support our customers and each other while growing our business. The team’s resilience in the face of unprecedented and difficult circumstances created by COVID has just amplified what makes us great and will continue to make us successful.

SARAH DAWSON
CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER, INTERNATIONAL PEOPLE SOLUTIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I’m responsible for delivering organisation design and effectiveness, projects across People Solutions and our communications agenda across our International markets – and we aim to drive enterprise thinking, matrix-working and aligning globally where it makes sense.
During lockdown, I started gardening and now have developed quite an addictive habit growing my own vegetables!
We have several focuses across People Solutions & Comms – the highlights are:
- Inclusion, Diversity & Equity: defining and cascading our ID&E strategy across International markets;
- Mobile workforce: creating an environment to enable remote working whilst protecting our culture;
- Digital environment: developing the skills and capabilities of our people and providing a consistent team member experience globally (through Project NEXT);
- Strengthening our organisation design and foundations; and
- Continuing to improve our communication and collaboration tools.
Personally, lying on a beach reading a book with a very large gin and tonic and no Teams calls for a week! Professionally, I’m looking forward to seeing the progress we are making as a People Solutions & Communications team continue and delivering on our commitments. I am super proud of the team and everything that has been achieved. I also thank our leaders for continuing to lead in the right way and living our values through a very challenging 12+ months!
At the heart of all that we do across the organisation is our values – and that’s what sets us apart from any other business. I am proud to work for a great company that has demonstrated through a pandemic that our values are not just words on paper and we will continue to ‘Do the Right Thing, Always’.

CRAIG MAILEY
CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER, COX AUTOMOTIVE INTERNATIONAL
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I’m part of the Global Strategy function based in Atlanta and my responsibilities cover our International markets. I’m supported by strategy leads within our core markets: Karoline Baumann (Europe), Matt MacAuley (Australia & New Zealand) and Ben Peisl (Canada & Brazil). I also have responsibility for insight in Europe which is led by Philip Nothard. In addition, I have responsibility for some New Growth business areas during their incubation period as they undergo early period growth or transformation. Currently these are both in Europe with Manheim Express, led by Sebastian Fuchs and Consumer Car Buying, led by Paul Humphreys.
My love of coffee is not much of a secret and pre-lockdown I should have been going to Starbucks Anonymous meetings with the volume I was consuming. I have travelled the world on the hunt for my fix, but the most amazing Starbucks venue is in Kyoto Japan in a set up like a traditional Japanese tea house. Finland and Switzerland share top billing for most expensive places to drink a cappuccino extra shot.
Despite the challenges of COVID, we still see opportunities ahead in the short, medium and long-term across all of our markets. In 2021 we already have a number of acquisitions completed which are key milestones on our ambition to double the size of the business. There are two specific focus areas in this quarter
I joined the UK business in 2004 in the newly created role of Buyer Services Director. I added to this responsibilities for strategy, client services and marketing before taking on a new role working across the International markets in 2012. This was part of an expansion phase which saw us enter China, India and Brazil. I returned to the UK business in 2016 and held responsibility for strategy and marketing before I transitioned to an international role again last year.
- International Mobility Strategy – we will leverage off the plans in the US to define our future pathway in this emerging sector. There are some really exciting things we are working on here which we will be able to talk more about later in the year.
- $9by4 plan – you will have heard Martin speak about this global initiative to add over $1B to our revenue by 2024. Although the emphasis is on our home market of the US, the team has been working on the International contribution to this target.

MITCH GERSTEN
CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER, COX AUTOMOTIVE GLOBAL
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I’m responsible for Cox Automotive’s Global Enterprise Technology which consists of: Enterprise Platform, Enterprise Operations, Infrastructure, Network & Voice Services, Team Member Services, Risk & Security, Delivery Enablement and Product Engineering in International markets.
I’ve been involved with youth baseball for about 15 years – since my two boys were about five years old. I coached for many of those early years. My wife and I totalled up that we’ve attended over 800 baseball games throughout the years! I am at the end of that journey now that my youngest is graduating and I expect to repurpose all those hours on the baseball field to being on the golf course!
We have a great deal going on in the technology space, helping us to enable Cox Automotive to scale and provide a great customer experience.
A few key areas of focus are:
- Integrating technology tools and processes across our International and newly acquired businesses;
- Cyber risk reduction;
- Transforming our employee experience by modernising our HR, Finance and Sales solutions;
- Improving the resiliency of our products and services to enhance customer experience;
- Modernising our technology operations to improve how we prevent and resolve customer impacts;
- Reimagining our ways of working in the future to put employee wellbeing, diversity and culture at the centre of our workplace; and
- Developing our team members – focusing on Inclusion, Diversity & Equity and implementing lean/agile practices.
I’m most excited about – just like most people around the world – moving on to whatever our new normal is going to be, getting everyone healthy and safe and spending time with each other again. More specifically for Cox Automotive, the International team is aligning across our markets and we are seeing great benefits of being ‘One Cox Automotive’. I am looking forward to seeing how this continues to fuel our growth and market leadership.
It’s all about our passionate and empowered people. We have amazing teams that we are fortunate enough to work with and who create a great experience for our customers every day. They all truly care for each other and have made it through some tough circumstances together – especially over the last year.

LORI HAAKMEESTER
VICE PRESIDENT, NEW PRODUCT INNOVATION AND PRODUCT OPERATIONS
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Lead Product Management for International markets and product management discipline for Cox Automotive in the US.
On one vacation, we cycled from Breckenbridge, Colorado to Vail Pass, Colorado, with an elevation climb of over 1,000 feet (304 metres) and 42 miles (67km) round-trip.
My primary focus for 2021 is leading the formation of the product management teams, growing and establishing product management practices and most importantly – delivering on prioritised product initiatives that our clients will love and will enable our business to grow.
I’m hoping to see people in person at some point when it’s safe! I really miss in-person collaboration opportunities and fostering creativity in this way.
Its strong values and demonstrated care for people – such as the well-being of our team members and clients.

MARIA SOKLIS
PRESIDENT, COX AUTOMOTIVE CANADA & COX AUTOMOTIVE BRAZIL
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I lead the development and execution of the organization’s national business strategy and operations in each market.
One of my favourite ways to blow off steam is to vacuum - funny, I know – there are rumours that I have been spotted doing this at the office from time to time... usually around budget time!
My focus in 2021 is to continue cultivating the growth and digitization of the business, empower our team members to be the very best they can be and to help lead our industry to new heights though commercial transformation and social equity efforts like our ID&E efforts.
I have been at Cox for nearly 6 years. Before that, I spent close to 20 years in the automotive industry in a wide variety of roles in 3 different countries, mostly on the OEM side. My education was in Social Work, a field which I believe continues to serve me well within the “people first” culture here at Cox Automotive.

PETER BELL
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, COX AUTOMOTIVE EUROPE
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I am responsible for leading the delivery across our European operating businesses in all aspects – People, Customer and Performance… and ensuring our success today and tomorrow.
I’m not sure I can claim this is interesting or surprising, but my ‘thing’ is cycling, or ‘obsession’ as my wife would term it! It’s been hugely important to my mental health through lockdown, and now the weather is improving, I’m glad to be escaping the garage and getting back on the roads and ready for (hopefully) more riding and events with friends this summer. This is a photo of me on our annual long weekend to Spain… a very happy place and time for me.
Across our European business, we have three key areas of focus for 2021:
- Strong Foundations – driving a more integrated European organisation and eliminating silos
- Digital Transformation – transforming our business to support a digitised ecosystem
- New Growth – exploring opportunities in emerging adjacencies
We also need to move the business forward and adapt to ensure that we can respond to the needs of our customers and our team members as we come out of the COVID pandemic.
Individually and collectively, we have shown tremendous resilience and support for one another since the start of the pandemic in early 2020 – but it has been tough on everyone, with each person dealing with their own unique experience and challenges. To be honest, what I’m looking forward to is the world becoming a safer and less restricted place, and us all being able to do the things that make us happier.
For Cox Automotive Europe, it’s us really forming a new single European business, building on our success and ‘DNA’ to become an even stronger, even more successful business and doing it together.
For me, it’s our people and our culture – particularly our Guiding Principle of ‘Doing the Right Thing, Always’, which drives our decision-making, particularly during this challenging last year.
I believe that these two set us apart from so many other businesses, both in our sector and beyond, and makes being part of this business so special.

DAVID COLWELL
CEO, COX AUTOMOTIVE AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I have strategic and operational responsibility for all businesses of Cox Automotive Australia & New Zealand.
I have travelled far and wide to almost 90 countries! I love to get off the beaten track and immerse myself into local cultures when I visit new places. Here is a photo of me at the edge of the Santa Ana Volcano in El Salvador!
Our five strategic priorities for Australia & New Zealand are:
- Investing in our future: reshaping the business and technology projects to provide an integrated platform
- Ecosystem expansion: building a connected retail proposition and developing a digital first marketplace to leverage our unique technology and physical assets
- Revenue growth: growing our core business segments, rapidly expanding new market entrants and monetising data capabilities
- Customer focus: investing in meaningful relationships with an enterprise-wide approach to deliver value for our customers, increase penetration with current customers and broaden the customer base
- Winning together: harnessing the power of our people and putting teams in the best place to succeed. Caring about our team members, the community and society.
My two key passions for 2021 are Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the wellbeing of our people.
In the CSR space, I really want to accelerate our programs around giving back to the community. I’d like to see us ‘do’ more and also ‘say’ more.
In the wellness space, I really want to take a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of our people that extends past physical safety and work-related tasks. I want our people to feel that Cox Automotive supports them to be fully engaged and healthy members of our family – but also as members of their families and communities outside of work.
Three things come to mind:
- I think we genuinely put people first – both our team members and our customers;
- We have the freedom to innovate – it’s part of our culture that we have ‘the OK’ to be entrepreneurial and that’s a great thing;
- We achieve things together, through collaboration and conversation – and this ‘how’ really is as important as the ‘what’.
